The Tampa Hillsborough Expressway Authority (THEA) will host the Whiting Street Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study Public Hearing on February 22, 2022, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. The PD&E study includes Whiting and Washington Streets and the reconfiguration of the Selmon Expressway ramps at Florida and Morgan. At the Public Hearing, THEA will present the preferred alternative. The hearing will allow attendees to have one-on-one discussions with study team members at information stations, view a pre-recorded presentation, and make public comments. More information: As downtown Tampa, Water Street, and the Channelside District continue to grow, THEA is committed to transportation solutions that maintain a harmonious relationship between connectivity and mobility. Our Whiting PD&E Study evaluates alternatives to better complete the downtown connectivity, walkability, and traffic pattern flows. When THEA reconstructed Meridian Avenue, the agency made a commitment to the community that once the flour mill was no longer located in downtown Tampa, it would remove the railroad tracks and help complete the grid road network, connecting the center portion of downtown Tampa to the east side. Now that the flour mill is moving, the agency is following through on that commitment and will present the preferred alternative at the Public Hearing. If you are unable to attend the meeting in person a recording of the presentation and all materials will reside on whitingstreetpde.com.
