East Selmon Slip Ramps Selmon Expressway drivers will soon get more opportunities to utilize the Reversible Express Lanes (REL) for their trips. THEA has been evaluating the function of the East Selmon Expressway for current and future capacity. We determined that we could move forward with two new construction projects which will give the REL a new westbound entrance and exit. The new westbound entry ramp will allow traffic to enter the REL from northbound I-75 and the new westbound exit ramp will allow drivers to exit the REL just west of the I-4 connector to continue their drive to downtown Tampa and beyond. Full construction has begun and motorists will start to see some nighttime lane and ramp closures between the hours of 7:00 pm and 6:30 am. On Feb. 2-3, Feb. 8-9 and Feb. 11, motorists who are traveling on southbound I-75 and wanting to access the westbound lanes of the Selmon Expressway will be detoured from 9 pm to 5 am to the next off-ramp exit on US-301. For ongoing traffic updates, stay connected with us via Facebook, Twitter or our website. Looking Ahead By 2046, traffic volume on the East Selmon Expressway is expected to increase by 83%. Since the spring of 2020, our engineering and planning team has been evaluating the function and safety of this region for current and future capacity. Recommendations and findings will be presented at the East Selmon PD&E Virtual Alternatives Meeting in the spring of 2022. In the meantime, construction will begin on the East Selmon slip ramps that will help to improve near term service levels for drivers on the Selmon Expressway. The scope of the East Selmon PD&E Study is from the Brorein exit in Downtown Tampa to the I-75 exit off the Selmon Extension.
